What's Up Wednesday (9) / RSW (8)

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly meme geared toward readers and writers, so we can check in with each other. To join, just check out Jaime Morrow or Erin Funk's blogs for the link widget and sign up!

WHAT I'M READING

Still reading The Dream Thieves, and it's so good and rich. I just want to soak in the magic of Henrietta forever.

WHAT I'M WRITING

No serious writing this week, though I did write another #twtpoem. This time it was a little different though because it was paired with a picture. Which leads me to the next section...

First though, Goal: Finish up that scene I was rewriting and connect it to the fragmented bits I have floating around in Scriviner.

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

The desert. There's seriously something about driving through the mojave that is both frustrating and inspiring. It's all that space and barrenness (yet not so barren considering the desert flora) combined with traffic, heat, and car accidents.

(Photo/the Sister)
But seriously, traffic snark aside, the desert is quite beautiful and intimidating. Here's the #twtpoem inspired by driving through it.

Heat is color coded sultry red gold/ But I burn like desert skies, fire-hearted, blue/ feverish for you.

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO

Remember when I said was resting up from Comic Con? Well, I wasn't fully recovered before I, uh, went off to Las Vegas this past weekend. Fun was still had, of course, but the girls and I did spend a full day just napping and lazing pool-side. There were some annoying hiccups, but we were able to deal with them.

All in all, girls' weekends are THE BEST.

Where we stayed. This was taken while napping by the pool.
Night 1: We got ready in record time- 30 minutes. (Photo/the Sister)

Night 1- We went to LIGHT - a newish club by Cirque du Soleil. You could tell it was Cirque by the dazzling lights and projections, the whimsical costuming, and the dancers who were extremely acrobatic. There was even a girl doing flips on a trapeze over the dance floor at some point during the night.

Day 2

We are pool ready! (Photo/ Eva)

Night 2 - We went to 1Oak, where things weren't as fancy but we liked the music better & danced a lot more. Also, more generous use of confetti cannons is always a plus!

This prep definitely took us longer than 30 minutes. (Photo/the Sister)
Evidence of a fun night out. 1 of us is already asleep & thus not pictured.  (Photo/the Sister)
Back home since Sunday, I've just been sleeping, reading, going to work, and hanging out with this dude.

What's up with you?

P.S. Come back Friday for continued Comic Con recapping! I will get to the end eventually!

The desert is one environment I still have yet to experience. Someday...

Also on my "someday" list is ComicCon! We've been going to NYCC ever since it started in 2006, but SanDiego is still on the wish list. I'm looking forward to your recap!

I am with you on the Desert. I'm a desert rat by birth and I miss the stark beauty and the smell of the desert after a rain.

Gorgeous twit poem btw!

And that club by Cirque looks very cool. :)

Love these pictures! And yes - girls weekends are all kinds of awesome. I haven't had one of those in a while - may need to look into one. :)

Have a great week!

I love reading your WUW, because you're always having so much fun! Vegas is always fun, and it sounds like your girls weekend was a blast--even if you were still tired from ComicCon. But that really isn't something to complain about.

Girls weekends are definitely the best!

I actually haven't been to / seen the desert before, but those photos and your descriptions seriously make me want to. :)

Oh, Loki... So darn cute! Looks like you girls had a blast in Vegas. Love all the photos. I've done that desert drive a few times and you're right -- it is its own kind of beautiful. Good luck finishing and connecting your scene this week, lady!

Ah, Vegas. Hubby and I haven't been in a while, but it was so much fun when we were there. Mostly we just enjoyed the food and the shows! Love the pics of the desert, by the way. The sky is so blue and unobstructed! Sounds like you're having tons of fun, which is what summer is all about, right? :-)

I love that poem, seriously. It says so much in so little.

I'm totally jealous of your Vegas trip! It looks like you had so much fun (side note: you got ready in thirty minutes?! Teach me your magic!) and the pictures are great :)

Girls weekend in Vegas sounds so fun. I've never been, and my in-laws just moved there. Future trip, for sure.

Love all the pics!

Lots of summer fun for you all.

I loved your Twitter poem. It's been a while since I've been to the desert, but I love Joshua trees. I can't remember if they have them in the Mojave or only further north.

I'm going to Vegas next year. I might stop by that club. I'm glad you had fun. Thanks for sharing.

Man, you do so many awesome, fun things! But then, maybe if I didn't live in the middle of nowhere, I might too. That Cirque de Soleil club looks very cool. I also enjoyed your desert poem. I live on the prairies, and I suppose the charm is similar to the desert: a LOT of open space and big, blue skies. Have a lovely week!

OMG. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous pictures! And I'm so glad you had fun :D

Oh man, I need to party with you guys. You sure know how to have a good time!!! I love the *idea* of the desert, but I am such a heat weakling. I'd probably melt into a useless puddle!
