WHAT I'M READING
I finished Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea over the weekend. If you're looking for a YA gothic with the right blend of swoon and creep, plus an absolutely gorgeous atmosphere, then check this one out. The voice is also fantastic.
I've just started ALL OUR YESTERDAYS, and I'm still reading a friend's MS, which is getting really interesting. I am in love with the world and mythology.
WHAT I'M WRITING
Still nothing...BUT! I had a Shiny New Idea that's actually an addition to an old idea, and goodness am I excited about it. So given that, I think this means I am indeed participating in NaNoWriMo this year, and I'll probably be writing this idea.
If you're participating in NaNoWriMo too, friend me! I'm kangaru.
WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW
Hamlet. There are so many lovely turns of phrase. There's a reason it's so oft-quoted! (Also, it is my favorite Shakespearean play...out of the few that I've read.)
WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO
Last week, I got to meet 2 lovely Twitter/writer friends, Cat (@catyorkc) and Corrie (@corrieshatto)!
We joked about roses and Pride & Prejudice. Cat actually followed through. |
I've been talking to Cat for maybe a year now (mostly squeeing about books we love), and I started talking to Corrie earlier this year. As often is the case, it was so fun meeting both of them in person and hearing not only about their writing but also their other interests. For example, Corrie and I watch an embarrassing (okay but not really because we just love TV, okay?) amount of TV.
This weekend, the Sister and I went out in search of a pumpkin patch because the Sister has decided she would like to tackle pumpkin carving again - though she swore it off after her first ever attempt 2 years ago.
The Sister's first carving: R2-D2 |
So we went to a pumpkin patch, and the Sister said it was her first time at one! News to me too.
Finally, two of my friends are going to be running the Nike Women's (half) Marathon this weekend in San Francisco. I'm not going with them, but I'll be cheering them on!
Q4U: What's up with you?

For not being a pumpking profi, Sister did a great job. That first books sounds really good. I'm going to look into it. And glad to hear you have a great idea for NaNo. Yay!
Oooh, good luck with your SNI and NaNo! Hope next month proves very productive for you.
Have a lovely week :D
I need to read Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea - it looks so good! I really enjoyed All Our Yesterdays, too. Good luck with your shiny new idea! :)
Yay Hamlet and yay NaNo!
And that pumpkin looks pretty kick-ass to me. My version of pumpkin carving would probably involve making a mess and then throwing the pumpkin out the window.
Meeting writer friends is the best!
Your sister's pumpkin is so good! What did she carve this year? I love carving pumpkins. I get those kits, though, with the guided pictures! I couldn't do one just from my head. It would be a mess!
Happy reading and writing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines
Good luck with NaNo!! Can't wait to hear how you do.
Love the pumpkin pics! And I have to mention that my first ever attempt at carving a pumpkin resulted in a trip to the emergency room and stitches. So yeah... Despite that, I'm going to carve a pumpkin this year!
I won't be doing NaNo the "correct" way, but I do plan on getting lots of revising done, so I will be checking in and cheering all of you on. :-)
Cute pumpkin pictures! I can't believe your sister had never been to a pumpkin patch -- we go every year religiously. :-) Best of luck with NaNo next month. I'm not doing it this year (I'll be revising), but I'll definitely be cheering you on. Have a fantastic week!
I think i'm going to try NaNo for the first time this year but I haven't signed up yet. I'm a little scared. :s
That pumpkin carving was awesome! I can only manage a crappy spooky face- if I'm lucky!
Good luck with NaNo! I love to write during NaNo, but unfortunately I won't be able to squeeze it in this year.
I love the pumpkins! And that's super cool you met writer friends. I hope to meet Cat one day as well. She's awesome.
yay, more love for The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. Glad you're creative juices are flowing, keep it up!
It's cool you have an SNI for NaNo. I hope all your planning for November (whether on paper or in your head) goes well, Krispy! :)
loving the pumpkin pictures. my very first pumpkin patch i went to happened by accident last year in Ontario. I am participating in NaNo this year but I can't trust myself. I'm kind of scared.
I'm thinking of carving a pumpkin this year for the first time ever! Halloween isn't quite as big a deal here in the UK as it is in the US, but I'm feeling all kinds of spooky and creepy lately :)
And good luck for NaNo! I'm sure you'll ace it :)
