What's up Wednesday (3) / Ready.Set.Write!

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly meme geared toward readers and writers, so we can check in with each other. To join, just check out Jaime Morrow or Erin Funk's blogs for the link widget and sign up!

WHAT I'M READING
I am still reading FROI OF THE EXILES - which isn't to say the book isn't good (it is!), but it is rather longer than FINNIKIN and I've actually had less time to read of late. I am SO CLOSE to the end though!

Eager as I am to jump right into QUINTANA OF CHARYN when I'm done, I think I'll finish up the fascinating CHARM & STRANGE by Steph Kuehn (out yesterday!) and start Gillian Flynn's DARK PLACES.

WHAT I'M WRITING
Nothing yet! BUT I did sign up for the Ready.Set.Write! writing intensive hosted by a bunch of lovely blog ladies: Alison Miller, Elodie Nowodazkij, Erin Funk, Jaime Morrow, and Katy Upperman.

Find out more by clicking Ready.Set.Write! or the button above. It'll take you to the sign-up post.

The accountability part of the intensive will be found in this meme every week, and today is the first goal setting post. So I'm starting really broad and really small because I am way out of practice and way indecisive.

Goal: For this week, I'd like to just be able to write 500 new words on something. I'm having a hard time deciding. I have a number of WIPs gathering dust, one of which actually has a decent outline (for someone who is a pantser by nature and doesn't really do the outline thing). That WIP is the one I affectionately call Luck, and it's about two siblings trying to break a family curse. You can read more about it here: Next Big Thing Meme

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW
Other than the mastery that is Melina Marchetta's fantasy world-building, the online blogging/writing community! Seriously, I've been having so much fun tweeting and blogging with so many of you. Who else is going to freak out with me over books and super random things? Who else is going to write Gollum-themed #twtpoem poetry? *smooshes you all*

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO
Quite a lot! That's why I haven't had time to read (or write) much! Since we got our Comic Con badges at re-sale, the sister and I have been frantically searching for housing for that weekend. As you can imagine, it's been stressful and crazy (and makes my wallet cry), but I think we're finally settled! Now we can move on to stressing over what we want to see/do and what the heck we're going to wear. I think it might be too hot for my galaxy tights, but I'm considering buying a galaxy skirt...YES/NO???

I also went to a Capital Cities concert last week at the always classy El Rey Theatre. Thanks to the Sister for getting me in & letting me hang out in the VIP balcony! It was a fun show!

Next up on our To-Do list is figure out our housing for when we go to Outside Lands music festival in San Francisco (one of my favorite cities) in August. I LOVE THE SUMMER!

Q4U: Will you join Ready.Set.Write! or do the July round of Camp NaNoWriMo? AND what's up with you?

YAY!!! SO glad you joined us for Ready. Set. WRITE!!! And I know the feeling on the WIP dust bunnies. Good luck with your goals this week. Go YOU!

Comic Con! You don't know how jealous I am. I hope to go to Comic Con in the near future. It's looks like so much fun. Good luck with finding a place to stay!

And I love the sound of your wip. I like that you were able to take a somewhat recent event and get a new story out of it. I'm currently trying to decide which project I want to work on. Part of me really wants to pants my way through an SNI, even though I should work on the book that I outlined (which is something I don't usually do).

Good luck with Luck if you decide to work on it and writing in general. :)

I am so envious that you get to go to Comic Con! And I say go with the skirt. It's totally fun! (I was looking at galaxy tights on ModCloth last night.) I think your writing goal is perfect. I overshot big time with my goals this week. Big time. Ah well. Live and learn, right? You WIP sounds good, so definitely brush the dust off of it and go to town on it! :)

Good luck on your writing goals. I'm a big proponent of resurrecting shelved or hiatused books. Sometimes the inspiration or interest just needs a little while to come back. In some cases, it returns years after you thought you were done with these people!

Meling Marchetta is a genius! And yes, Frois, is much longer than Finnikin, but so good! I'm on on the waiting list for Quintana at the library. Good luck with your summer writing goals!

So glad you're joining us for Ready. Set. Write! I think it's going to be a fantastic summer. :-)

I can't wait to hear what you think of CHARM AND STRANGE. I'm so intrigued by that story, and its cover. Oh, and I read DARK PLACES in January and it is crazy, crazy, crazy. I like Gillian Flynn's brand of disturbing nuttiness, though, so I was a fan.

YES to the galaxy skirt, that is suuuper cute. I have CHARM & STRANGE ready to go--I've heard only awesome things about it, so I'm looking forward to reading :)

Oh, I'm so jealous that you're going to Comic Con! I would love to go one year. Good luck on your writing goals! Your WIP sounds really interesting.

Gollum-themed poetry? Now that's fun! I'm so glad you joined us for Ready. Set. WRITE! Whether you start a new WIP or dig out an old one to polish up, I wish you lots of luck in meeting your goal for this week!

I didn't remember until after my post yesterday that I also signed up for Camp NaNo. I'll be doing that, too!

Good luck deciding which WIP to work on!

OMG THAT SHIRT I NEEDS IT. Scale of 1 to 10, how mad will you be if you see me at Comic Con wearing the same shirt? Because I totally want to jack your style.

I'll leave it to you, though, you'll pull it off way better. I'd look like an actual galaxy in it. Is there a slimming black hole option for chunkier gals? ;)

Also, YAY YAY YAY for Ready Set Write! I'm so glad you talked me into doing it, I think you're totally right. It'll be good for both of us! Maybe we can schedule some writing sprints! SOLIDARITY SISTER!

I love the galaxy skirt, I think it would make a nice, unique addition to any wardrobe.

Also I LOVE your WIP, Luck! It sounds so interesting, and what great inspirations for it...best of luck to you! I can't wait to read it in bookstores one day :)
