Name That Book: Similar Book Covers Version Answers!

Awright, peeps.  It's time to find out how well you did on last week's edition of Name That Book Krispy normally gets them all but I managed to stump even her this time on a couple.  Here we go, first covers on the left and similar covers on the right!

10429092
1. Prophecy by Ellen Oh

6931234
2. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
Shadows Cast By Stars by Catherine Knutsson

764347
3. Exodus by Julie Bertagna
Unwind by Neal Shusterman

5797595
4. Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
Thirteenth Child by Patricia C. Wrede

9680114
5. Possession by Elana Johnson
Pure by Julianna Baggott

How did you do?  Just scrolling down my Goodreads, I've spotted a few more cover lookalikes, so there will likely be another version of this coming in the future.

In the meantime, wish Krispy luck on her Ready. Set. Write! verse-novel project.  I didn't even nag her about it today but rest assured, I will nag her about it tomorrow.  I'll just be puttering around in the meantime with a couple of projects, as per usual.  WRITE, KRISPY, WRITE.

Name That Book: Similar Book Covers Version!

It's time for another round of Name That Book!  This time it was inspired by scrolling through my Goodreads and noticing similarities between different covers.  There are, of course, tons of covers in girls in fancy dresses in various drowned/dead/dying or sexily-looking-over-the-shoulder poses, so I decided to skip those for now (maybe that'll be another round in the future).

The way it'll go this time is thus: I'll post the cover of one book along with the description of a second book that has a similar cover.  Have at ye!

10129062

1. This Spanish-based fantasy series features a princess who is the Chosen One.

13449693

2. This dystopian novel features a world where Native people's blood provides a cure for plague

1938128

3. In this dystopian, if you're between ages thirteen and eighteen, your parents can choose to donate all your organs are to different people.

12394100

4. In this American-Western-inspired fantasy, a girl considered an unlucky child moves to the frontier with her twin brother and learns that maybe she's a special snowflake after all.

8337087

5. In this dystopian, privileged humans live inside a protected dome while outside live the unfortunates who became fused with whatever random objects (or people) were closest when the apocalypse struck.

Try to remember those covers!  I tried to use some less immediately giveaway-y clues for the descriptions since my original description for #1 was as obvious as giving a clue for Lord of the Rings by showing Sauron with the One Ring on his finger.  Also, I think most of the covers are pretty much the same between hardback/paperback.  I think.  I'm pretty sure.

Take a look and give a guess!  And in the meantime, celebrate the fact that it's Friday.  Whee!

Name That Book: Literal Version Deux Answers!

Time for the answers to Wednesday's post.  Behold!

17675462

1. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
Didn't realize that my doodle was pretty close to the cover re-design.

17167166

2. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas
In this one it was hard to show the hands pointing toward 12.
Maybe I should have crammed an AM on there somewhere.

7969452

3. Fury of the Phoenix by Cindy Pon
ANGRY.

10429092

4. Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
I really wanted to draw Fatprincess instead of the female symbol
but that would have given it away.

13458013

5. A Confusion of Princes by Garth Nix
See all the ??? They are confused.  And princely.

I'm so proud of Krispy because when I asked her if she got all of them, she said yes, except for OMG THE CROWN AND CLOCK ONE IS CROWN OF MIDNIGHT.  She also identified #2 as an angry bird--an angry phoenix--a-hah!  Fury of the Phoenix.  We were on the same wavelength this time, she and I.

Hope you enjoyed this round of Name That Book.  Our weekend plans consist of express tickets to board the Fatty Train to Fat Town, i.e. we're planning on eating some delicious food and then some more delicious food.

What are your weekend plans?

Name That Book: Literal Version Deux!

Howdy, howdy!  It's time for another rousing round of Name That Book!  Once again, it features YA titles interpreted literally via doodles.  Take a gander and give a guess!

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

Good luck!  Answers lie somewhere in the future.  In the meantime, I'll be trying to catch up on Arrow since Krispy's way ahead of me.  Damn you, Krispy!

Name That Book: Literal Version Answers

What time is it?  Adventure Time!  I mean, it's Friday!  Which means it's time for gratuitous exclamation points and the answers to last week's Name That Book post!  Most of the guesses were spot-on, although it seems everybody had trouble with #5.

16101128

1. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

6001758

2. Fire by Kristin Cashore
Krispy suggested this could also be the faction symbol for Dauntless.
I was like, No, Krispy!  Literal title interpretations! LITERAL!
...but good guess anyway.

12930909

3. Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke

10576365

4. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
This was probably the hardest title to try to interpret literally,
which is probably why nobody guessed it.

10194157
5. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

10429045
6. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Another guess was A Million Little Pieces (good guess, Connie!) and I thought
maybe somebody might guess Fractured.  They're all broken-up things, anyway!

How well did you do?  I think I'm going to nag Krispy next time and have her help me come up with some titles and doodles.  Maybe I'll even bully her into doodling a few herself!

In the meantime, Krispy's been getting lots of good suggestions and tips for her upcoming trip abroad!  I will be staying put on Loki Duty and trying to remember how to use my own remote control and TV schedule since I watch 90% of my shows with Krispy and her Sister.

Have a great weekend!  Stay warm, peeps!

Name That Book: Literal Titles Version!

Happy Friday, everyone!  I've been enormously slacking on my reading, continuing my extended trend from last year--I looked at my Goodreads page and made a sad, sad face.  And then I decided it was time for another round of Name That Book.  This time, I've taken the titles of various YA novels and doodled them literally, not necessarily with any connection to characters or events in the story.  No hints this time, just plain doodles!

Take a gander and throw us your best guess:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

6.
My plans for the weekend include copious amounts of sleeping and also bullying Krispy because, you know, that's what I do, although this activity is not exclusively reserved for the weekend because in fact I do it all the time.  Maybe I'll try to catch up on some reading while I'm at it.

Have happy Friday funtimes, peeps!

Name That Book the Fifth: Answers!

Well, well, congratulations to all who played!  No misidentified titles or covers this time, which either means my drawings are more accurate or you're more used to my artistic idiosyncrasies!  The most unidentified cover was #3, and I'm not sure if it's because it wasn't that hyped and/or it was a terrible book and/or maybe my ):< expression for the girl on the cover threw people off.

Here are the answers.  See how well you did!

The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1)

1. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

Something Strange and Deadly (Something Strange and Deadly, #1)

2. Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard

Daughter of the Centaurs (Centauriad, #1)

3. Daughter of the Centaurs by Kate Klimo

Plain Kate

4. Plain Kate by Erin Bow

Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin, #1)

5. Grave Mercy by R. L. LaFevers

So how did you do in this round of Name That Book?  I kind of liked drawing stick figures for that one round, so maybe I'll do that again next time.

I need some book recs!  Got any scifi, fantasy, or dystopian titles for the Alz?
