WHAT I'M READING

And it is EXCELLENT. I like can't handle how good, how rich Maggie Stiefvater's writing is!

WHAT I'M WRITING

So I honestly thought I wouldn't be able to get any words down. I am still recovering from SDCC (and other things, but more on that later) if you can believe that. Imagine my surprise when I was hit by the muse again this week. I didn't write what I'm supposed to be working on, but I did write a little scene from something else. I reworked part of an old scene and I have to say I like this version a lot better.

I even wrote two #twtpoems!

Goal: Finish up this scene and actually write something for Luck.

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

Maggie Q (Nikita), Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black),
Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), Michelle Rodriguez (Fast & Furious)
The fierce, talented, and intelligent women of EW's Women who Kick Ass panel from Comic Con. I was in Hall H all day Saturday with 6000-some other people for all the big movie panels, and while I loved hearing about the big projects and seeing the movie stars, I was THRILLED to see this panel in the middle of the roster. It was so refreshing to see this diverse panel of women talking about the challenges they have faced and still face in the industry. It brought a level of depth, discussion, and substance to an otherwise fun-but-fluffy day.

And whatever reception it may have had with parts of the audience, I thought it was so awesome this panel was put in front of such a packed room. MAYBE this discussion about women, sexism, and diversity reached some new people.

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO

SDCC RECOVERY! Seriously. I've been taking naps after work all week & I slept in all weekend. I did also manage to go to my little cousin-once-removed's birthday party, give Loki (the dog) a bath, and go to the Justin Timberlake & Jay-Z Legends of Summer concert. Yeah, those activities didn't help the recovery too much...

Dance party at the Rose Bowl with Jay-Z and JT!

I'm also sorting through my SDCC pictures (and memories). I'll continue these couple of Fridays to recap the days chronologically, but I thought I'd post some outfit pics here today. Here are our attempts at geek chic!

DAY 1/ Outfit 1

Sister: Bright blue bandeau, comic book exclamation tank, crochet shorts, HP Dark Mark
(I drew it) Slytherin TOMS, POW! ring (pictured below).
Mine: Lit-themed! Interrobang rings, lightning bolt bracelet, HP Marauders shirt, Ravenclaw
tie-as-belt, gray shorts.

DAY 2/ Outfit 2

Sister: White tank, Star Wars skirt (hand-sewn, pleats & all by our grandma!)

Mine: Space-themed! Star Wars shirt, cosmic skirt, starburst ring, celestial rings.

DAY 3/ Outfit 3

We sort of bummed it on Saturday (Day 3) because we knew we'd be in Hall H all day. Plus, we had to get up in the middle of the night to go sleep in line. So, there was that - hence the hoodies!

Sister: Tokidoki THOR shirt, blue maxi skirt, UCLA hoodie (not pictured).
Mine: black tunic top, galaxy leggings, Tokidoki THOR hoodie.
Accessories I PLANNED to wear but didn't.

DAY 4/ Outfit 4

Also known as what we wore when we went to Nerd HQ and saw Tom Hiddleston. If you watch the panel, you can maybe spot me in the crowd thanks to my bright blue jacket.

Sister: Marvel comics dress worn as shirt, gray shorts, black/cream jacket (not pictured).
Mine: Tokidoki Avengers shirt, patterned shorts, Tokidoki THOR hoodie (not pictured).

What's up with you?

I've been wanting to read that book - heard so much great stuff about it.
I can imagine that SDCC wiped you out, but it looks like it was so exciting. Especially, with those outfits :)

I can't wait until that book comes out! BUT I think I need to do a reread of RAVEN BOYS again before I read that one. Can't wait!

Also, it's so fun to see all your Comic Con pics! And I want that Star Wars skirt! Awesome!

I hope you have a great week!

I loved the RAVEN BOYS so I can't wait to read that one.

Also loved to see all your pics from Comic Con. Your outfits were fantastic!

Hope you recover. And good luck with all the writing this week! :)

I love that you posted your outfits! Seriously, that is such a fun way to show a side of the con beyond pictures of other people's cosplay or blurry panel pictures. I love, love that Star Wars skirt! Super cool.

Your inspiration about women who kick ass--wow, I am also so glad to hear that a female-focused panel made it Hall H right in the middle of the day where people could see it while they waited for other panels. I think those names would probably draw a big crowd anyway, but that's still really cool. I'm going to check out those other links.

Looking forward to more of your comic con posts.

Maggie Stiefvater's on my author-to-read list. One day soon, hopefully!

I can imagine it taking a good while to recover from SDCC. Just soaking in all you saw and heard would take a while! I'm glad you had such a good time. :)

Jealous! Both of you reading The Dream Thieves but also because of comic con. I heard about the women who kick ass panel and how awesome it is. We need more women represented in movies and television! Good luck with your goal this week!

I love your outfits! They aren't costumes of actual characters they're just comic inspired outfits, which is way better in my book. You are way to cute!

Also, how did I not realize The Dream Thieves was already out. Maggie Stiefvater is my absolute favorite author.

Love that Star Wars skirt!

Comic Con looks so much fun as does that Jay Z/Justin Timberlake concert at the Rose Bowl.

Good luck with your writing goals!

Have a great weekend!

Love the outfits you ladies wore to SDCC. So much fun! And, as you know, you inspired me to buy my own supernova skirt. ;-)

Happy to hear that you were inspired to write this week! New scenes are so much fun to write!

I'm so, so envious that you have a copy of THE DREAM THIEVES. I can't wait to read that one! Have a great week! :-)

I loved all the outfits! You ladies are quite the Geek Fashionistas! I hope that I end up as one of those cool grandmothers who will sew Star Wars skirts for her granddaughters.

Oh my good lord, your outfits are drop-dead fabulous! Seriously, the way you guys paired themed tops with bottoms is just inspiring. Also, love the dark mark you drew for your sis!

Ugh, a JT & Jay-Z concert?! You guys are spoiled by all the big names that come around to your city! :P

Ummm, so you two have some SERIOUS geek swag! I want ALL OF YOUR OUTFITS! (Seriously. I want!)

Also, your grandma is AWESOME! That skirt is pretty much just the cutest thing EVER!

And, of course, jealous that you're reading The Dream Thieves (though I STILL need to read Raven Boys!), & that you went to the Women who kick ass panel!

Oh my goodness... The outfits are AWESOME. Love seeing them all together like this. :-) Yay for your muse striking! Your poems are fantastic, as usual. I hope you can get even more writing done this week!

You guys look awesome and I love ALL of your totally appropriate fashion choices. I am so jealous of all your cool geek swag! I LOL'ed when you clarified that you gave a bath to dog Loki, not man Loki. Hope you get all the sleep you need.
